BAPTISED WITH FIRE Printable Version PRINTABLE VERSION

Peace & Conflict   Poetry

We are baptised with gunfire
And held an AK47 for a candle.
We have been immersed in cold blood:
To wash away our tears and fear.
From that moment we joined the bundle
of the family of damnation-not salvation.

We were baptised with gunfire,
And danced to drums of machine guns.
The rhythm was quite fascinating to hear!
And the actions matched the tunes:
murder and rape of the innocent.

We were baptised with gunfire;
And shall not worry about tomorrow,
for we are confirmed the leaving dead.
From the day of our miscarriage,
our death begun in front of the barrel;
we are assured to meet our fate-
your fate too, though in different ways.

But when we baptised with gunfire,
And you with Holy water have died,
shall the judge apply same parameters?
Why? We don't uphold similar virtues,
For ours is death and survival-
yet, yours is faith and salvation.
So, let the load be fair then.

Writer Profile
kaboyo julius

My name is Kaboyo Julius from Uganda, Kabarole district, Tooro kingdom, in the western part of the country.

Currently, I am a teacher of English language, Literature in English, and Psychology at Sunrise High school in Rwanda. I like writing things that will change the world since I feel this world is not the place it should be.

As a person who studied psychology and literature, I like to check people's minds and what they think, whether it reflects what they believe in. This makes most of my writing seem emotional if I am right about my writings.
