The West and Terrorism: A New Approach Needed Printable Version PRINTABLE VERSION

Sometime back, Spaniards voted overwhelmingly for a major socialist led government coalition after negatively inspired terrorists spearheaded a blood curdling bombing, which rocked Madrid, the Spanish capital. The ‘brave’ bombers (terrorists) allegedly took credit for the heinous act, meticulously bragging of how capable they are in changing governments. Days did not change fast before they again took to the media, calling on the Spanish government to quickly withdraw its troops from Iraq or face the consequences.

The anarchical scenario, as neurotic as it looks, shows just the tip of the iceberg of what many current western leaders have to go through to avoid the maniacal zeal and spates of terrorist attacks from all religions and backgrounds and their sympathizers. An apologia against the Hargerstrom school of thought, many are caught up in the trap of self-defeatists’ quagmire, looking for an oblivious way out to no avail.

Terrorists as they are now, appear to inculcate socio-political mathematics in their malevolent war. As the attacks on mosques, temples, shrines, synagogues and church buildings meteorically rise under the aegis of ‘religious’ animosity, many are left wondering skeptically of what would become of future possibilities of peaceful religio-human coexistence considering that religion is a distinctive part of human life. These attacks thus, portend a grave danger to the ominous tinderbox for the world peace, which appears to be growing scarcer by the day.

The congruous fact that old guards with notions widely considered as negative and anti-developmental are gaining ground in the west only shows the divide that is fast encroaching on global human socio-political integration and co existence. From one corner of the world to the next cliques of deluded terrorists, the greedy, the merciless and their ilk are taking over reigns amidst the voluptuous silence and unassuming the attitude of the advocates for equality and justice for all. Where are the true Christians? The salt of the earth?

It is the west that is currently shouldering the metric tones of terrorist baggage, having given them support in their pursuit of narrow-minded ideologies. To apply the adage of setting a thief to catch a thief is apt, but putting across the other of never lighting a fire you cannot extinguish is more apt. As it may seem, terrorists, an acronym for extremists, are not going to any winner sooner. However, a look at the hate teachings being grafted and pontificated into young minds goes a long way in exposing how far the war against terrorism is from being won. This is a naked voracity, reflecting back at the anti-terror campaigners in the world. What with sympathizers of terrorists rising to the echelons of political power elsewhere in the globe?

Terror and blinded zealotry appear to be finding a common front in today’s world as they have a penchant for Marxist and Hitlerian interpretation. It is noteworthy that they are also peculiarly deceptive and pitiful monotonic portraitures of self-defeatist souls with empty senses of inner cleavage and mis-directional depictions of a better life for humanity, which is the gist of their mis-teachings.

The terrorists see the hegemonic ‘big brothers’ as encroaching on their cultural independence; while the big brothers see terror as an affront to freedom. There has never been a force or embankment, however strong, which has been able to derail the currents of an idea whose time has come. This should be put into consideration by both the big brothers and the terrorists.

The big brothers, due to their economic might and control of the international mass media , strangely enough have been able to retain their culture, as many in the developing world abandon theirs (cultures) in favor of foreign ones. As it stands, it is the sovereign duty of any country to safeguard its citizens from what it perceives as irrelevant for their moral, physical and psychological welfare. However, it is equally wrong for any individual or group to sponsor marauding mercenaries to cause mayhem and havoc in the world in the name of fighting an imaginary infidel or overthrowing democratically elected leaders and effectively causing regional instability.

As it is now, the mantle in the fight against terror is certainly not of a carnal nature. It is psychological, the war of winning minds. The sooner the anti-terror campaigners realize that, the better the indications for their success.

TakingITGlobal has never been more apt than it is now in providing a forum for expression. This is because the dynamic world has undeveloped challenges that pose a great problem to the growth and daily life of any youth in the global society. What with the incessant wars, poverty, HIV/AIDS, pornography, racism and several other vices creeping into the society in a culture best objectified as vicious gradualism.
Here is where writing comes in handy and the TakingITGlobal literati, glitterati and pundits alike have provided a vital conduit through which these vices, positive and negative dynamism can be expressed.
I am saddened for example, when a promising youth is reduced to a hopeless parasite by drugs. More saddening is when I see the mercilessness, the hopelessness, the dereliction, the lack of love that many children, youth and people are subjected to due to wars, poverty, pornography and such as other negativities which silently and slowly kill the spirit and will within humans! Having gone through such experiences myself, I pray that God gives me the massive ability to be able to help these people to the best of my ability with His guidance, provision and protection. I have often wondered whether the expression "do unto others what you would have them do unto you" is being subjected to relativity. These are the problems which need highlighting and what better forum is there than TakingITGlobal.
I am privileged to be part of this ideologically vimmed and gustoed community.
