Peace & Conflict   Opinions

We were discussing about September 11th in our RE lesson today. There were a lot of comments made by students that where talked about, that made a lot of sense. It's amazing some of the statistics that people have calculated. But are the Americans right to be retaliating too such an extent. When you think about it, America has bombed so many places and done so much damage to peace in the Middle Eastern countries. They have killed millions of people and they think that they can just walk away with their nose held up high! I don't think so. It was a catastrophe waiting to happen. When it finally does, it so coincidentally happened to be a terrorist! But it wasn't just Bin Laden who wanted to do it. It was all the places that had been bombed by America previously. The innocent people didn't do any thing wrong. So what if they have a different religion. It’s not illegal to practice it, is it? So basically, a lot of people wanted to do something to the USA. Americans are just using the "War on Terror" theme as an excuse. So when 9/11 happened, there were pictures in the paper of Palestinian civilians cheering. Then there was the retaliation. And again, the civilians started dieing. And so America has no sense if they are going to bomb Iraq. It had to stop soon. Or I reckon it might get out of hand.

About America
matt | Sep 11th, 2002
basically i dont think that people should support america or the arab countries, but since america seems to love bombing and blowing up half the world then i would support the arab nations. Apart from that if America decides to declare war on Saadam Husain then it will just esculate the problem, meaning that people who were just not literally "siting on the fence" will suddenly show their support to Iraq and America will be fighting against the rest of the world. and another thing is that it is partly the medias fault, because when ever america bombs someone, the media doesnt talk about it but when ever america has something done back to them they complain and say they're going to pay back whoever did it. So overall america started this so that means they need to make peace and stop bombing other countries to finish it. Matt

About America 2 and some other things
matt | Sep 11th, 2002
So that just means that to stop bombing and killing around the world, America have to stop showing support to Israel, even though there are a lot of Jewish Americans in America, because as a fact there are Muslims in basically every country how many or little there are, as a fact there are still more Muslims. If you have heard about most African countries that they buy super-power weapons in stead of buying food for the starving and dieing because of lack of food and such poverty, that is just wrong. Another thing that is in regard to Australia, John Howard wants to declare support to George. W. Bush to bomb Iraq, but it was said that the terroists, after 11/9, had their eyes on London, then Sydney or one of the major cities in Australia. So supporting America in the governments and politician

What The?????

I personally think that america should abide by whatever the UN's decision is in the end. Lots of the reasons that America has put forward have just escalated the feeling that this is not right until, it is something that can't get away from. But then you have to look at it the other way. Thousands of people die in Arab contries and more than tens of thousands of people died when an "American" owned company's facility faulted. ya didn't see that makin headlines did ya??? wonder why not? I don't want to be indelicate here but there a views on both sides of this arguements. IF america goes to was Iraq WILL use whatever it's got since it is "the final battle". Biological and Chemical weapons they have but we "don't know" what else they have. It will escalate the hostilities towards the US and western civilisation in all Arab countries and make "us" a target wherever we are... symbolistic value may of had a lot to do with the "World" trade centre which it damn well isn't in the first place so can we please stop calling it that...the view that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction are damn well true since they've had years to create them and now "they" america want to stop them...perfect...just what we needed...more violence and destruction...the resolution? UN inspectors will be no good because they could be hiding anywhere...they might not even be in Iraq...they might be in Australia, America, Russia, Britian...anywhere on the whole damn world map...attacking them will do nothing at all and in the end...america will lose...so my view? ...just sit back and relax while the good times role by and start preparing nuclear bunkers under ya homes along with stocks of food that will last you centuries...good luck to you all for the rest of your lives even if they're really short which I hope they're not...................................
