Weapons of Mass Destruction. Printable Version PRINTABLE VERSION

Peace & Conflict   Opinions

We are all made to believe that weapons of mass destruction are only created during the times and for the sole purpose of war.
Man's way of life has allowed him to discover and invent many things that are benificial and/or help him during his short time here.
The evolution of industry, mining, pharmacutical, petro-chemical, and transfer of knowledge should also be seen as brinning its wrath onto lifes living quarters.
I could pick two prime examples of the above:
1) If we were to dump all those "medicines" available out there into the "great lakes",- what I once called a possible world fountain of youth - what would happen to the life connected to body? Would some evaporate, sink or just overflow into the ocean? Most of what we consume ends up on the planets air surface or underground.
2) The other is the automobile. It is an extension of mining, petro-chemical and heavy industry, all spewing out by-products detrimental to life. Of course, in their defense they say that the ones we build now are better then the ones on the road. We can and are willing to replace the 80,000,000 vehicles that are out there and also make another 120,000,000 to put on all those new roads that we are laying. At what cost may I ask? Can we safely re-cycle or dispose of such a large amount of the brew on wheels?
The industrialized countries of the world should have a deep look into themselves and see where we (as a species) are headed, what we promote, need, want and desire.
The building up of defences and/or offences with more arms is also a weapon of mass destruction. War has never been an answer yet this is what some of our leaders resort to. Mankind is the only weapon of mass destruction. Blind and foolish and sometimes just plain ignorant.
How and when will mankind reach an accord as to, who we want to be, and, as to where we want to go? We know the whys but not the when and where.

Writer Profile
Gerald Derome

Forty eight years young.
Third stage of my life physically, second or forth/fifth upstairs?
I fully understand the environments we swim in. The whys we do the things we do, are the way we are.
I have faith in what i see and write as attainable solutions to our earthly man made problems.
My perspective is influenced by time mostly. I, and others, seeing ourselves as such fools (as a whole) while th eso called educated and leaders, arrogantly brag about being the opposite.
Mankind is not smart in his ways, we all know that.
Fear of even positive Global needed change is quite evident.
Just a cleaner. Trying to clean IT all.
